American History Resource: The Promise of a Nation

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Smithsonian Institution has published The Promise of a Nation: Commemorating 250 Years of Patriotism, Resilience, and Aspirations from the National Collection.

This is a fascinating museum in a book! It covers the past 250 years, one decade at a time. Each decade has a timeline of important events, photos and descriptions of items from the Smithsonian collection, and a narrative exploration of that decade. This book could spark many further investigations into the people and events that have shaped our country. It can also serve as a valuable companion resource to any American history curriculum. It is best suited for grade 7 and older.
