Learn All About the Papacy

OSV Kids Discover: The Pope by Colleen Pressprich is a new book designed to appeal to children, but adults can learn a great deal from it as well. Readers will come away with a greater appreciation of the papacy, the men who have held the office, what papal life is like, and the duties of the office.

The book is divided into six sections: Papacy basics, The Pope as Monarch, Pope as Head of Church, Papal Daily Life, Becoming Pope, and A Timeline of Popes (that includes Pope Leo XIV). In these pages, you will learn about symbols of the popes, the history of the Papal States, important places in Vatican City, papal writings, ecumenical councils, papal apartments, papal pets, what happens when a pope dies, the most notable popes in history, and much more.

The pages are colorful, full of illustrations and photographs, combined with informative text. There is something to catch one’s attention on every page.

In a homeschool, OSV Kids Discover: The Pope could be used to help teach church history and to assist children/teens in understanding the role of the pope. It could also serve as a jumping-off point for learning more about a particular pope or time in church history.
