New College Admissions Test / College Scholarships

This was in my email inbox today:

I am excited to introduce you to the Classic Learning Test (CLT), a new standardized college entrance exam available now to high school students and accepted at a growing number of Catholic and Christian Liberal Arts Colleges across the United States. These colleges now include Aquinas College, Christendom College, John Paul the Great Catholic University, Northeast Catholic College, Thomas Aquinas College, Thomas More College, Wyoming Catholic College, and Patrick Henry College, among others. The list grows weekly!

As an additional incentive, the CLT will be awarding scholarships of $1,500, $1,000, and $500 to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd highest score recipients of the June 11th CLT. Scholarship money will be acceptable at all colleges in the United States. We also launched the CLT Revolution Video Scholarship Contest. Students are invited to make a creative video about why the CLT is the best option for college entrance exams and post it to YouTube. The student with the most views by June 11th will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship which can be applied to college, private school tuition senior year, or homeschool expenses.

The CLT is grateful for the enthusiastic support we have received from Homeschool Connections and Maureen Wittmann, and from fellow homeschooling parents who labor daily to restore the unity of knowledge and virtue in the education of our children. I am one of you, and as a Catholic homeschooling parent, I truly believe the CLT is an answer to our prayers.

The CLT will secure the future ability of our students, especially those who are home schooled and independently educated, to demonstrate their knowledge, abilities, and potential without requiring them to review Common Core materials in order to score well on college entrance exams such as the SAT and ACT. As we all know, the latter two have been re-written to reflect Common Core content, and we firmly believe that those who have rejected the Common Core Standards should not be measured by them.

The CLT was written to counter the disastrous effects upon American education of the “values-neutral” SAT and ACT exams. This new test offers a virtue filled alternative including rich material from C.S. Lewis, Plato, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Flannery O’Connor, G.K. Chesterton, and similar authors – many of the authors studied in Homeschool Connections courses!

The CLT will benefit and enrich students in the test taking process. Test content is truly accessible to every educational background upholding that which is good, true, and beautiful. The CLT exam is the best assessment of students whose education is grounded in the Classical standards following our Catholic Faith.

Ironically, even the best schools and colleges have deferred to the usual tests when looking for a measure of an applicant’s intellectual capacity because they were the only tests available. The CLT now offers students, colleges, and parents a third option.

The first official online test will be given on Saturday, June 11th at testing sites around the country. Students take this two-hour computer based exam at a local testing center and receive test scores in less than a week. Scores may also be transmitted directly to those colleges accepting the CLT. The test fee is $49 and may be taken on the student’s own laptop computer. I recommend that the test be taken by juniors and seniors, and certainly by some sophomores, if this is the direction of their education. I also encourage those students who already have taken, or plan to take, the SAT and/or ACT, to take the CLT. There’s no better measure of comparison than first-hand experience.

At this time, I invite you to visit the CLT website at www.cltexam.com, watch our video to learn more, register your students, and have them take the online Practice Test. In fact, I invite all parents to take the Practice Test to see for yourselves what it’s all about. Then, register your students for the June 11th test date. If there isn’t a test site near you, complete your registration with “No Locations Near Me.” As soon as one is secured, you will be notified by email…or, consider asking your school or co-op to host the test themselves! Simply pass on this email and our information and they may contact us directly.

Thank you very much for your time and interest, and for visiting our website. Please watch for an upcoming announcement on a new CLT Prep Course we hope to offer through Homeschool Connections.
