Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) was one of America’s leading illustrators, who created many of the covers for the Saturday Evening Post and also commented on social issues through his work. The Norman Rockwell museum located in Stockbridge, MA, has created a series of K-12 lesson plans that can be used in conjunction with his works and would be a great addition to an art or history curriculum. They are designed for classroom use, which makes them ideal for a homeschool co-op, but can be easily adapted for use with one or two students within a home environment.
Some of the topics covered include his famous Four Freedoms series, World War II, civil rights, and citizenship.
