It’s August! Happy month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary! 😇🙏❤️🔥🌹🗡A devotion to the Immaculate Heart is an admiration and emulation of the interior life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, her joys and sorrows, her virtues and hidden perfections, her virginal love for God the Father, her maternal love for her son Jesus, and her compassionate love for all people.
The devotion grew up slowly, alongside devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is focused on gratitude for the burning love and mercy of the heart of Jesus (and sometimes also with the Chaste Heart of Joseph). The Immaculate Heart is usually aflame, pierced by one or more swords, and wrapped with flowers, often roses or lilies. It is based on descriptions of Mary’s heart found in Luke: “Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart” (Lk 2:19) and “a sword will pierce your own soul too” (Lk 2:35). Early adopters of the devotion include St. Bernard of Clairvaux in the Middle Ages.
The Morning Offering Prayer
O my Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you all my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered throughout the world, in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.

The FCC now requires book reviewers to disclose the following. Book reviews appear regularly on this website. While there are books that I have purchased or check out from the library that I review, in general I have received the books that I review for free with the understanding that I will review them. There is no expectation of a positive review unless the book is worthy of one, and there is no additional compensation.
