Pictures of Me is another amazing middle-grade book by Marilee Haynes. This author really has a knack for writing about those tumultuous middle-school years.

There were many enjoyable aspects to this story. As a mystery-lover, I always enjoy a good whodunnit. So, the storyline of the missing chalice lured me right in and kept me guessing until the end.

Avery’s Battlefield is a sweet historical novel for middle school students. The story follows two years in the life of Avery, a young teen boy, during the Civil War. This book would be a great way to introduce kids to that tumultuous time in American history.
