‘Twas the Day Before Christmas in Bethlehem Town

‘Twas the Day Before Christmas in Bethlehem Town by Leslie Bond Diggins with illustrations by Erin Nelson is a lovely picture book for young children. It is told from the perspective of a young shepherd boy who doesn’t understand why the streets of his town are so full. His father explains about the census and tells him to welcome the strangers with love because “sharing God’s blessings increases our joy.”

In response, the shepherd boy offers some food to some of the weary travelers. Later that evening, he is among the shepherds who are visited by the angel of God proclaiming the good news that the baby Jesus was born. He then gets to visit the baby Jesus.

This charming book would make a great addition to a Christmas book collection.
